As a Wedding Planner I know that choosing the right photographer is a very personal choice but with an increasing selection of styles to choose from, which one is right for you?
Wedding trends come and go (and then often come back again!) and the same can be said for photography styles. Terms like fine art, reportage, documentary, lifestyle, classic the list goes on and it can be hard to know what best suits you. ‘Wedding photography is more than just pictures, it’s an emotional experience which the pictures should reflect.’ Says Joe from Joseph Dart Photography ‘When the images resonate with you personally, that’s how you know you’ve found the right style for you. Trends in photography come and go. I personally believe in timeless photographs that tell your story.’
Be careful not to fall into the trap of just using the photographer the venue recommended or someone you met for two minutes at a wedding show. These photographs will be something that you treasure and there is only one chance to capture the day. Take your time, ask lots of questions and ask to see their portfolio and reviews.
My advice is to not get too hung up on the terminology and go with your heart. Meet at least two or three photographers whose photos you love. This will give you the chance to get to know the photographer, understand their style and see if they are the right person for your big day.
